How Important Is A Good Well Log?

Whether a customer wants a bid on a new pump installed or has problems with an old pump, the first thing I would like to see are the records.  Of the ‘well records’, the ‘well log’ is the most important.  The pump installation report has some information but the original bid or invoice for the pump usually has more detail. The information on the well log coupled with the customers water requirements are used to design a pump system for that individual.  Each one is different!  A good detailed well log will tell:

  • The water location
  • The type of formation or rock
  • The casing program
  • Screen length
  • Type and size of perforations
  • Grouting interval as well as the total depth
  • Static water level
  • Sustained yield

Many things can and should be looked up, determined and solved by analyzing the data before workers set foot on a site.  This simple step has saved many a customer time and $$. Servicemen hate paperwork but not having it and taking the time to read it is counterproductive.David Nequette
